Maxim sockets for Road Rail Access Points (RRAP) have been designed in partnership with Network Rail for use by their off-track departments responsible for installing and removing level crossing Road Rail Access Points. These sockets are designed specifically for the retaining bars that hold RRAP mats together. RRAP sockets can be purchased individually or supplied as a complete kit packed in a carrying case. Kits are available in 1″ drive or 3/4″ drive sets.
RRAP Retaining Bars.
There are two types of RRAP bar used in Road Rail Access Points.
RRAP bar with internal thread
Use the 27 mm × 20 mm socket for the bar and the 28 mm × 20 mm socket for the locking nut. (The stabilizer diameter is 20 mm).
RRAP bar without thread
Use the 27 mm × 25 mm socket for the bar and the 28 mm × 25 mm socket for the locking nut. The stabilizer diameter is 25 mm.
Removal of Worn or Damaged RRAP Bars
RRAP bars are 27 mm hex, however the locking nuts are slightly oversize and require a 28 mm hex socket. For bars that are badly worn an adaptor and extractor can be used. When the extractor is hammered into the bar by the impact wrench it grips and turns the locking nut off. The extractor is a consumable and typically delivers around twenty removals of worn or damaged RRAP bars.

These Sockets can be purchased individually or as a kit packed in a carrying case, in either 1” or ¾ “drive sets.
